Decorative Frames Inkscape 47 and SCAL2 Macintosh

I'm so EXCITED.  I made these two frames in Inkscape .47 and THEN, the really big news is I took them into SCAL2 for the MAC!!! and separated the file into layers.

This is a big deal for Mac users who have not had an SCAL2 version until this week.

SCAL depends on the benefice of users to write the tutorials for their products and I found one done by HeatherM on how to move from Inkscape to SCAL2 and separate the two images into 2 layers so you could have one file but only cut the one you want.

I hope you can use one or both of the frames and that you try it in SCAL2 one of these days.

If you have not downloaded SCAL2 yet, I'd be greatfull if you used the link on my BLOG so CraftEdge knows I'm rooting for them.  Just click on the SCAL logo on the top left column here to get it.

Working with Rotate - Inkscape Flower, Poinsettia, Ornament

I'm having a wonderful time learning to use the new features, and discovering old features in Inkscape.  This flower was created using a leaf and then playing with "rotate" in Inkscape.  The stem is done with the pencil and "spiro" feature.

This one was done with a different leaf with 6 rotations. It is 3 layers plus the center. I call it poinsettia.  It will print as well as cut.

OK one more.  I took the poinsettia and created this tree and wreath for those of you who love to paper piece and glue. The one green element is duplicated and formed into the wreath or tree shape and welded to form the base (mat) for the other red and yellow layers.

LEAVES are on a wonderful file created by Tingha and is on the SCAL Forum
ROTATE video is from CUTTINGTIME.  I used the one called Using Rotation to help with designing files for your cutter.

All of the pieces are layered (not in layers) and you'll need Inkscape to pull them apart for cutting.  I don't have SCAL2 so am unsure if you can break apart there.

If you have any problems with the files, please let me know.  Comments are alway appreciated.

Thank you!

Family Walking in Snow - Silhouette

Just one more Holiday card.  I loved this image and it seemed to go with the Holiday spirit!

The download is only the Family you'll have to provide the setting.

I used Inkscape .47 Final for the Mac.  The speckled background is FROST from the Filters/Overlay menu.

The font is SNOWCAPS if you don't already have it.

Turkey Day 2009

I know that it is way too late for Thanksgiving cards but I needed to practice my "drawing" skills and went looking for a "how to draw" tut.  Found a turkey and went to work, and work, and work.  It really is satisfying to DIY.

Since I have the time I'd rather DIM than use someone else's.  It is hard to remember whose file you are using and I believe it is important to give credit.  So I just DIM with the help of all of the wonderful tutorials out there.

But I digress.  Along the way to doing the drawing I decided it would make a good element for a layout for your Thanksgiving pictures.

I've included both a SCAL1 file and an Inkscape.47 file for you to play with.  Pardon the color scheme, I don't like it but by the time I got this far I was pretty well over it.

I cut it (about 4 times) and am confident that it will cut in SCAL1.  You may also want to add eyes and beak if you are so inclined.  The rest is up to you.

A Happy Thanksgiving to You all.  As always if you have any problems with the files be sure and let me know.

My THANKS to Amy (Amy's .svgs and Other Scrap Stuff) for the suggestion to make the image more appealing and graphically aesthetic.  I hope I made her proud with this.  Drop in and visit her new BLOG

You Ring My Bell - Inkscape Tag, Card

 Just playing today.

I have the newest Inkscape release (pre4) with so many new features to explore.  Then ScrappyDew did a vid on bulge, warp text and I had to try it out.

This image is an "inspiration" piece.  I didn't try to cut it but I will provide both .jpg and .svg if you want to play with it. UPDATE:  I was able to pull it into SCAL1 with only one problem.  The CHRISTMAS text is not all "ungrouped" and needs a new union.

Snowflake Ornaments - Inkscape

There has been a lot of flurry around all the wonderful free Snowflake fonts available.  Just "google" font snowflake and take your pick.

I used one of them to create these tree ornaments.  They cut beautifully on  8.5x11" cardstock.  I did them all at once in white and will sparkle them up next week.

I give you two files a .png so you can print them if you want and an Inkscape .svg so you can cut them.  You will really want to cut them.  I might even make a mobile with them and hang it from a chandelier.

I hope you enjoy these pretty little things.  Try it on your own, I gave you one blank circle.

The PS is for PapaSue in case you forget where you got them and want to give me credit some day.

Holiday Bag tags,Stamps,Cards Pieces to Print or Cut

HO HO Bag download .jpg   HolidayTime download .jpg

Some things I put together with some bits and pieces that I have been working on lately.

Most of the elements I used are in one file. for you to download to put together yourself. The Santa Face I got off the net and the link is below. Of course the font choice is yours but I'll tell you which one this is. I didn't recreate the medallions either but there is a link to the cutable file belos. You will have to do the snowman eyes, nose and buttons yourself but they are just circles, which could be done with punches or drawn in SCAL to fit.

To make the "Text in a Circle" see my POST:
To make the snowflake medallions or download a cutable see my POST:
The Font is Leaf-1 and can be found on dafont.com
The Santa face I used can be found HERE:  But if you "google" santa face and then click on the images button at the top left of the screen there are bunches of different ones, This one is nice since it is a "digistamp" and you can color yourself!

Get the Bits and Pieces ELEMENTS .svg file.  The frame is in two pieces.  I used a pen to add the "fold lines to the bag" It was just easier for me. If you'd like to have the .jpg this LINK is for you!

I hope you enjoy this little bit of Holiday fun.

Please let me know if you have any problems with the files.  Comments are good too!

Note Card Backgrounds to Print

The beginning of the "holiday" cards is here.  I've created some elements for you to make your own note cards in just a few minutes.

I use the "blanks" as stationery and add the sentiment or graphic to suit.

I PRINT the blank and "cut" embellishments although sometimes I cheat and print the whole thing adding graphics from my stash of .jpgs. I cut card stock to 10x5" and adhere the printed background to it.  If you are really good you can print right on the cardstock and cut to fit.  All depends on how much "gluing" and dimension you want to do.

Here is what you get in the download:  One is a .jpg file so you can "import" it into Inkscape and select out the elements you want to use, recolor from there, you might even be able to TRACE IT AND FOOL WITH IT SOME. Or take into your Photo program (I use Adobe PhotoShop Elements) and recolor there and resize and print. The other is a regular .svg.       DOWNLOAD .jpg   DOWNLOAD .svg

There are more medallions on my Post on making medallions that you can download

There is a .jpg and an .svg file so that you can select whichever elements you want to play with.  Change the colors to match your theme.
