Pigeon Point LightHouse, CA Silhouette

My DH is a superb photographer. He took this picture of the Pigeon Point Lighthouse a few years ago.  Today, since there was only football to watch I took the picture and made a SILHOUETTE for your personal use.

I of course started in Adobe PhotoShop Elements and extracted the black outline, removing all of the beautiful sunset background. I was able to "trace" the outline in SCAL2 directly, but I'm still not convinced it works better or even as well as Inkscape .47 although Ink has it's own problems. So I went to Inkscape .47.

After doing the TRACE BITMAP thing this is the outline view of the PHOTO.  I have absolutely no idea how the detail is there but it is.   That lead me to many other possibilities.  I did a BREAK APART and separated the black outline from the rest and then combined and deleted until I got just the house and the top of the light detail.

What I have for you is a "paper piecing" file with the background the top of the lighthouse and the house.  I deleted all of the shadows down the side of the light house as they would not cut nicely.

Here is the final look of the files, one layered with the two other pieces and one with just the silhouette.  I grouped them so that when you take the file into SCAL2 you can separate one from another.

I'm not even sure I learned anything doing this except SCAL2 and Inkscape together and individually still have a ways to go to be easy and user friendly!

I sure hope someone can find a use for them!!

OH, I have one picture of the light house that I have hanging, of all places, over the toilet in the guest bathroom. It is 13x19" unframed.  They only turn on the light once a year and MDH caught this most gorgeous picture. The whole room is full of light house pictures and people seem to like it there. I keep telling him he could sell prints but it is one of those I'll do that one day things.  MEN!

Thank you for sharing Susan, I love lighthouses.
Tell your husband his photo is terrific. I take photo's of every lighthouse I visit but they are no where near that good.
The link to the other website was very interesting.

This is awesome! I know exactly what I'll do with it as I've been looking for a lighthouse scene to do a vinyl piecing on my bathroom cabinet to match the lighthouse theme. This is perfect in size and position. Thank you so much
